Petal
Airport Seating
Petal redesigns the airport seating by providing a private experience accessible to all.
Privacy at airports is often only kept for the paid lounges, which creates a system where people who might need undeniable moments of solitude (eg. in some cultures women breastfeed in privacy) find themselves without a place. After the pandemic, we need a change of seating landscape with enough personal space to feel comfortable in highly trafficked places like airports.
Iterations & Assembly
After the initial design, there were multiple iterations that followed - to further improve the concept and optimize the parts for the best production methods. This included materials, production methods, and ease of transportation.
Contextual Rendering
Basic renderings of how such a seating could be set up in a busy airport. While there might be more quantity of seats, it gives us the idea of how drastically it can change a landscape.
Materials & Manufacturing
The project revolved heavily around the manufacturing aspects. We discussed considerations on cost per piece and optimal methods for production. Additionally, we got ballpark evaluations from the manufacturers here and overseas. it was roughly about 15,60$ for the PP and MPR parts to be produced, transportation would be separate.
